The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reached a new landmark by becoming the first-ever Middle Eastern Country to enter Mars’ Orbit. It was another feather in the cap moment when UAE’s Hope probe entered Mars’ orbit on Monday, 8th February 2021. The mission officials confirmed the news to the world as the country created history by becoming the first Middle East nation to enter Mars’ orbit.
UAE’s Prime Minister and Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum described it as the moment when UAE entered the history books. According to him, fifty percent of missions that the UAE tried failed to enter orbit. Hence, even if the probe had not entered orbit, the country still made history.

It was in July last year when the UAE launched the mission to Mars along with the likes of China and the US. The missions were launched in order to take advantage of the period when the Earth is closest to Mars. As per the mission officials, Hope started a 27-minute burn to slow itself and was pulled in by the gravity at Mars which was the most challenging part. As put down in history, the venture also marks the 50th anniversary of the unification of the UAE’s seven emirates.
